| 1. A method for producing a tapered write pole in a read/write head for a disk drive, the method comprising:
providing a substrate;
applying a photo resist mask to a portion of the substrate;
depositing an insulative material to a portion of the substrate adjacent to the photo resist mask, at least a portion of the
insulative material being formed in a ramp;
removing the photo resist mask;
applying a write pole tip layer on top of the substrate and insulative ramp;
planarizing the write pole tip layer and insulative ramp to substantially create a plane; and
lapping the entire structure to create an ABS surface,
wherein the slope of the ramped insulative material relative to the substrate is less than 15 degrees.
